86% of creators have adopted AI tools to revolutionize content creation.

At Adobe MAX, its annual creativity conference, Adobe unveiled findings from its first Creators’ Toolkit Report. The report shows that a whopping 86% of creators worldwide are currently using creative generative AI in their work. This shift marks a significant shift in the way small business owners and content creators leverage technology to improve their operations and reach wider audiences.

Surveying more than 16,000 creators across multiple countries, the report paints a picture of a vibrant creator economy where artificial intelligence is not just a passing trend, but an integral part of the creative workflow. “Creators today are not passively using creative generative AI; they are intentionally curating tools they can trust,” said Mike Polner, vice president and director of creator product marketing at Adobe. This sentiment reflects the growing trend among small business owners to adopt AI tools to support creative processes and business growth.

The report’s key findings highlight the transformative impact creative generative AI is having on the creator economy. 76% of respondents said AI has accelerated their business growth or follower base, and 81% said AI has enabled them to produce content they otherwise could not have. Additionally, 85% believe AI will have a positive impact on the creator economy, highlighting its potential to help small businesses succeed in a highly competitive environment.

Small business owners can leverage creative generative AI in several practical ways. Top applications identified in the report include editing and enhancing existing content (55%), creating new assets such as images and videos (52%), and brainstorming ideas (48%). The message is clear: 60% of creators use multiple AI tools to improve their output. The idea is that diversifying your toolset can improve quality and creativity.

However, integration of AI tools comes with challenges. According to the report, 69% of creators have concerns about their content being used to train AI without permission, highlighting the importance of trust and transparency in AI applications. Barriers to adoption also include high cost (38%), unreliable output quality (34%), and uncertainty about how to train AI (28%). Small business owners should carefully consider these factors when considering adopting AI tools.

The report introduces the concept of ‘Agent AI’, which refers to an AI system that suggests actions to users and actively supports them by automating tasks. 70% of creators express excitement about the next evolution of AI but emphasize the need to maintain creative control. Specifically, 85% would consider using AI to learn their unique creative style, indicating a preference for personalized tools that enhance human creativity rather than replace it.

Interestingly, mobile devices have emerged as an essential creative studio for creators. According to the report, 72% of respondents frequently create content on mobile devices, and 75% expect to create more mobile content in the next year. For small business owners, this trend opens up new avenues for content creation on the go and allows for flexibility and spontaneity in capturing and sharing marketing materials.

The report’s methodology adds credibility to its findings. This survey, conducted in partnership with The Harris Poll, surveyed emerging and semi-professional creators (primarily Gen Z and Millennials) who are increasingly shaping the digital landscape. These demographic shifts suggest that small business owners should keep the preferences and behaviors of young creators in mind when adjusting their marketing strategies.

As the creator economy continues to evolve, small business owners need to stay informed about the capabilities and implications of creative generative AI. By embracing these technologies, you can improve your content creation process, communicate more effectively with your audience, and ultimately drive business growth. Insights from the Adobe Creator Toolkit report provide a roadmap for navigating this dynamic environment and highlight both the opportunities and challenges ahead.
